About Us

Bilsdale Riding Centre began as an idea of the Caines, a Yorkshire born and bred farming family, with a passion for all things riding. Each Spring, they would welcome a foal from the mainstay mare Mary.
By 1975, they found they had a number of horses and ponies without a job, and so Bilsdale Riding Centre was born…
Over 45 years later, we are still going strong, welcoming friends and guests to experience horse riding at its best in "God's own Country".
Nestled close to Hawnby, in the beautiful North York Moors National Park, Bilsdale Riding Centre (Shaken Bridge Farm) has a wealth of stunning countryside views, riddled with bridlepaths, green lanes and forestry tracks. An idyllic base from where we can showcase the stunning surroundings to the public in the best way possible - from the back of a horse.
We love what we do, and it is a pleasure to be able to share (what we feel) is some of the most outstanding riding country that the UK has to offer!

Amazing Horses

With as many as 20 horses at the Centre and many others on our farm along the road, we are exceptionally proud to say that we breed most of our horses and ponies inhouse.

It all started from our mainstay mare Mary, with many of our riding horses being her descendants. That means when we say we know the horse you are on; we really do!

All our horses are an extension of our family and are treated as such. Each one has their own fun-loving characteristics, and we would not be Team BRC without them!

Outstanding Countryside

Bilsdale Riding Centre offers spectacular rides out around the breath-taking North York Moors National Park. Our rides encompass vast expanses of moorland and forestry. The area near us is riddled with bridlepaths. We ride along old coaching roads and smugglers routes discovering the various flora and fauna each season has to offer.

Springtime is a sight to behold, bursting with carpets of wildflowers such as violets, bluebells, and primroses, along with frolicking new-born lambs and (if we are lucky) we might spot a doe with fawn at foot.

Summer brings with beautiful blue skies, fields of golden crops, and the moorland painted in pretty pinks and purples.

The everchanging colours of Autumn brings even more beauty to our rides, from the beech woods to the solitary oaks. There is no better sound than the crunch of fallen leaves under hoof and no better time to see wildlife.

Whilst Winter brings the colder weather, the magic of it can transport you to many different scenes, from Narnia to the North Pole. The feel of Christmas is in the air with the dark green leaves and brilliant red berries of the holly.

Whatever the season, sit back and enjoy harmonic atmosphere, riding wonderful horses in outstanding countryside.
